Swifts/Great Western’s A-Grade and C-Grade sides suffered losses in the Horsham Cricket Association, while the B-Grade team enjoyed success in their two-day match before narrowly losing the one-day grand final in an action-packed weekend.

The B-Grade side secured first-innings points against the Horsham Saints in their two-day match at Coughlin Park. Chasing 122, they reached the target comfortably, finishing at 4/179 before both captains called the match off.

On Sunday, the sides met again in the one-day grand final. Winning the toss, the Combine elected to bat and were bowled out for 144 in the 38th over. Opener Matthew Delzotto top-scored with 28, Craig Marrow contributed 22, and lower-order hitting from Jack Harney and Matthew Dean helped lift the total.

The Combine’s bowlers started strongly, with Marc Brilliant taking two of the first three wickets to reduce the Saints to 3/26. Alan Dube and Archie Sostheim rebuilt, bringing the Saints to 4/77 when Dube was caught by Delzotto off Emmanuel Kuriayan Joseph’s bowling.

Jack Harney removed Ben Sawyer, and Stuart MacPherson claimed Zach Hammerston to leave the Saints at 6/144, keeping the contest alive. Sostheim remained composed and, alongside Muhammad Hassaan Masood, guided the Saints to victory in the 37th over, with Masood sealing the win with a six.

Brilliant was the standout bowler for the Combine, finishing with 2/23 from six overs, while Archie Sostheim earned man of the match for his performance.

In A-Grade, chasing 151 for first-innings points, the Combine were bowled out for 111 in the 50th over, with Max McMahon top-scoring with 33. The Colts batted again to 5/101 before both captains agreed to call the match. Jayden McCartney starred with the ball, taking 3/29 from seven overs.

The C-Grade side suffered its first defeat of the season, losing to Quantong at Quantong Recreation Reserve. Batting first, the Combine were dismissed for 128 in the 35th over, with Matthew Delzotto top-scoring with 47, Darby Grinham adding 46, and Ethan Parker finishing unbeaten on 10. Quantong chased the total comfortably, finishing 2/130 in the 32nd over. Wickets for the Combine came from Grinham (1/26) and Joseph Martin (1/20).

Tomorrow, the A-Grade side faces a must-win two-day clash against the Horsham Tigers at Central Park, while Donald Jeffcott hosts Brim-KSH. With both sides equal on points, the last finals spot could go down to the wire.

In the other grades, the B-Grade side travels to Davis Park, Nhill, to take on West Wimmera in a two-day match, and the C-Grade team will aim to bounce back when they host Laharum at Great Western Recreation Reserve in a one-day match.
